First Contentful Paint (FCP)

This check measures the time until the first text, image or other content is painted.

What is measured

The audit uses an observed laboratory value and compares it with the 1.8-second good threshold.

The visitor quickly sees a meaningful response instead of a blank screen.

Reduce critical CSS, server delay, blocking fonts and scripts required before the first paint.

FCP marks the start of rendering, not the point when primary content or interactivity is ready.
